Lee, this honor is much deserved. You have done so much to promote the love and importance of poetry.
And how appropriate that it will be presented at a luncheon at the NCTE conference in Philadelphia next November. (Lee is a native Pennsylvanian!)

While we're in our first of the month announcement period, I'd like to share some good news. The National Council of Teachers of English recently announced that Lee Bennett Hopkins is the 2009 winner of the NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children.
