While I won't dispute that the book is well-written, this is not a style of writing that young adults take to readily. Since I am at an elementary school, I read a small portion of the book aloud to my own daughter, an honor student, who had recently graduated from college, to get her take on the book. She emphatically said she'd never have gotten through one page and didn't see how I managed to read the whole book. Honestly, I usually love historical fiction but I did have difficulty forcing myself to plod through the book until I was near the end. It seems to me that we're looking at a small, elite audience for Octavian. Gail Dent
