[CCBC-Net] Dr. Eliza T. Dresang retiring at end of 2008

Important Addendum to James Elliott's message!

As the invitation to my 'goodbye party' at FSU says, I am, in fact,
'retiring to a Second Life.'

Dec 31, 2008 will be my last day of employment as the Eliza Atkins Gleason Professor in the College of Information at the Florida State University, where I have spent fourteen delightful and fulfilling years.

Jan 1, 2009 will be my first day of employment as the Beverly Cleary Professor for Children and Youth Services at the Information School at the University of Washington, where I anticipate spending many more delightful and fulfilling years.

Although I am very sad to leave FSU, Seattle has something to offer in addition to the job that Tallahassee does not -- 2 year old Lizzie and 1 year old Finn who happen to be the children of my son and daughter-in-law.

Because of the way things work with doctoral students, I found that if I officially retired from FSU, I could remain the major professor for those students with whom I'm working at the dissertation stage. If I simply resigned I could not.

So, I thought I'd best quickly clarify this before I became the recipient of traditional retirement good wishes and inquiries about what I will do with my new life of leisure. :-)

I will in fact be teaching, conducting research, participating in service and working with faculty colleagues and students just at a different place in a different climate in a different time zone.

Thanks for the kind words, James.

Eliza
