I am happy about the feedback i am getting on this issue. Thanks to everyone for being so insightful. Howver, i wonder as librarians and media professionals, have you all come across books that might have depictions or slants on myths, folklore etc that you aren't very pleased with? If so why and how does it affect your criteria for your collection if you have or had one in the library. I am especially curious about this becasue i am taking a class and our discusion last week touched on Native American folklore and problematic depictions in Children's books.

Quoting James Elliott <libraryjim at embarqmail.com>:

> Good one! "The Pyrdian Chronicles". Disney made a bomb out of one of
> the books, "the Black Cauldron", which was notable only as their
> first "PG" rated animated feature. It was one of the first fantasy
> series I read growing up, and was a gateway series into such notable
> fantasies as "Narnia" and the "Lord of the Rings".
