Good one! "The Pyrdian Chronicles". Disney made a bomb out of one of the books, "the Black Cauldron", which was notable only as their first "PG" rated animated feature. It was one of the first fantasy series I read growing up, and was a gateway series into such notable fantasies as "Narnia" and the "Lord of the Rings".

Has someone already mentioned Lloyd Alexander's wonderful fantasies in which he draws closely on Celtic mythology and legend?
