Judy Blume was definitely forbidden fruit for me during my childhood. Of course, that never stopped me.

Funny, with all the recollections of Are You There, God and Blubber, I still remember reading Tiger Eyes. I was in my first year of teaching fifth grade and I just could not pass up the opportunity to read another book by a favorite writer. I remember sobbing through the pages of loss and love and ended up handselling it over and over at my weekend bookseller job.

Another Blume memory. I had just met an interesting guy at my new job when I was a sophomore in college. He had shelves and shelves of books and I asked if I could borrow a book by Blume. I didn't know the title and I must say I was intrigued by a guy who would read Judy Blume. So, I borrowed the book. I finished the book that night and was pretty shocked that Blume had written an adult novel. I remember a lot of blushing. The book was Wifey and I married that guy.

So, I guess Judy Blume changed my life too. :)
