Judy Blume also changed my life. She is the reason I am a children's book author. Her books touched my heart and soul as a child, and today I still consider her books to be some of the best. Why? She makes the ordinary extraordinary. I'll never forget passing FOREVER around my cabin the summer before sixth grade. "Page 85! Oh my God! Did you read it??" And of course my girlfriends and I had the "We must, we must, we must increase our bust," chant from ARE YOU THERE GOD, IT'S ME MARGARET down pat. BLUBBER made me see bullying in a new light. IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD helped me to believe that I would survive even when my parents fought. I could go on and on, but the overriding idea is that Judy's characters helped me get through adolescence. And her books inspired me to become an author.
I recently had a dream of a lifetime experience... lunch with Judy Blume. I blogged about it at www.brendaferber.blogspot.com She is a lovely and warm in person as you could possibly imagine!
