Since no one has said much about board book lately, I thought I'd chime in. My favorite board book is Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton. I love to use that book when I do baby story time. After reading the story I use the barnyard dance song (off of her Rhinoceros Tap cd) and give the babies shakers to shake along with the song. The parents love it - the song, which is square dance like, paired with the book is just sheer fun! I also like Boynton's new board book Let's Dance Little Pookie! There are so many ways a parent reading that book can interact with their child.

Other favorites are the ones by Helen Oxenbury. The larger size of these board books, plus the simple colorful illustrations appeal to parents and children. The books are simple but can be expanded upon in different ways like tickling and clapping hands. They are never in the library. I also like Chicka Chicka ABC the shorter board book version of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom which is better for younger children.

My parents' favorite board books are the ones without too many words. They like the books that are short and the text is large because their baby won't sit still for too long. They also tend to like books favorite author with them.
