Speaking of new books, these two 2008 books would make a great match for young adult readers, especially in a classroom setting:
The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. Henry Holt and Co., 2008 Thoreau at Walden by John Porcellino, from the writings of Henry David Thoreau. Hyperion, 2008
The Adoration of Jenna Fox , set in the near-future, presents realistic issues related to biotechnology and medical ethics. Also embedded in the story are the challenges these issues impose on civil rights, the environment, and religious beliefs. Jenna's classmates discuss Thoreau at length, and therefore this novel would be great paired with Porcellino's highly accessible graphic novel based on Thoreau's writings.
