I forgot to mention in my previous post that I also had some success with an 8th grade after school group reading Ann Petry's Tituba of Salem Village and Marc Aronson's Witch-Hunt: Mysteries of the Salem Witch Trails. We finished things off by watching the excellent film version of The Crucible. The material was challenging but the kids who participated were motivated by their interest in the subject matter. They seemed to get a lot out of seeing the events portrayed from different perspectives.
