We homeschooled our kids and pairing fiction/non-fiction readalouds?on the same topic like this was sometimes very effective.? We did it a lot with picture books and easy non-fiction, but it was harder to manage with novels and longer non-fiction....both titles needed to be really engaging.? It's not that hard to find a non-fiction book to match the subject of ther novel, but more challenging to find one that works great as a read aloud.???Susan Bartoletti's "Black Potatoes" with "Nory Ryan's Song" by Giff is?one pair we liked a lot.? And Jim Murphy's "American Plague" + "Fever 1793" by Laurie Halse Anderson?is another.???
