Thank you CCBC for this most rewarding discussion with Leonard Marcus whose knowledge is so vast. It was the very best conversation.
And yes, Hollis, library (note the word) education should once again include a history of books for children, the art, bookmaking, publishing, editing, and the delightful gossip about the people engaged in the history and process. A history of the development of the idea of childhood would not be amiss.
Years ago, I taught such a course.
