First I should say how much I am enjoying MINDERS. I dipped into the later chapters first and am now wending my way through from the beginning. It is so well-written--fluid, thoughtful and enlightening. I find myself reading excerpts to my husband. Thank you, Leonard!
I am wondering whether the omission of some women who were influential in my training--May Hill Arbuthnot and Zena Sutherland--is reflective of a New York bias, or whether they just didn't wield as much authority in the publishing/library world as I'd thought. Or possibly it was a matter of space constraints?
I've found myself longing for photographs and plates as I read about these fascinating "minders" and the books they brought to life. Maybe there's a companion volume to come? I'll bet there are lots of anecdotes lying on the cutting room floor! My favorite is the one about the "last words" of Ursula Nordstrom--the last spoken to Leonard, anyway. Priceless...
