Even prior to the McKissack's rewrite, a chapter about Prince Bumpo wishing he were white so he could marry Sleeping Beauty was deleted all together from the book club edition in the 1960s. But that wasn't the book that won the Newbery. Lofting was awarded the Medal for the second book in the series, "The Voyages of Dr Dolittle." The text of that one remains unchanged, although there are new illustrations by Michael Hague in the current edition.
