As an former evaluator of juvenile materials for a major public library I used to read many of the blogs mentioned in this discussion as part of my work.
Maybe "skimmed" is a better word. I was also reading reviews from the print media, which had the advantage of being more succinct.
Now, as a full-time writer, I read the same blogs and enjoy them from a different perspective. Before they gave me a sense of what people in the field were interested in and talking about, which is very useful in developing library holdings. Now blog-reading constitutes more of a social networking function than a professional tool. I love having access to a community of enthusiastic writers, thinkers, and readers.
A brand-new blog I like very much is Book Addiction
(_http://evasbookaddiction.blogspot.com/_ (http://evasbookaddiction.blogspot.com/) ). Blogger Eva writes eloquently about books and she respects and recognizes the enormous variety of reading tastes.
