I do use blog-based reviews as a supplement to professional review journals. On occasion, they have brought books to my attention that I had previously missed. In addition, the alternative viewpoints and styles of blog-based reviews can provide insightful counterpoints to the more traditional (yet still highly valuable) review sources.
