Hi All,
I apologize for sending that empty email. I just wanted to say thank you CCBC for featuring Jacqueline Woodson. I admire her work so much. I remember the first Woodson book I read --Visiting Day. The grace, power and poignancy of that story touched my heart and lingered days after I put it down. At that time, I was an aspiring picture book writer. Something Beautiful by Sharon Dennis Wyeth opened up that dream for me. Jacqueline Woodson's books showed me that not only was my dream was possible, but with heart, hard work and commitment, maybe one day my words could soar.
Some of the best lessons I've learned about picture book writing have come from reading Ms. Woodson's books. From Coming On Home Soon to The Other Side, each of her picture book titles has taught me about infusing stories with rhythm, meaning, clarity and strength.
So thank you, Ms. Woodson, for inspiring not just the children who read your books, but adults too. I am here because of beautiful writers like you.
  Warm Wishes,
  Kelly
