I am forwarding this message from Jan Rice, president of AILA. Everyone is welcome and there's still time to get tickets. I'll be there and I hope to see many members from the CCBC-Net Community there, as well! -- KT
** Friends,
You are cordially invited to attend the American Indian Youth Literature Award Reception which will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm, in the Anaheim Marriott Hotel, Salon E.
The following American Indian authors will be present to receive their awards: Joseph Medicine Crow (Counting Coup: Becoming a Crow Chief on the Reservation and Beyond), Sherman Alexie (The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian), and Tim Tingle and Jeanne Rorex Bridge (Crossing Bok Chitto: A Choctaw Tale of Friendship & Freedom).
It promises to be an exciting and colorful event, as AILA brings local native people of California to share cultural dance demonstrations. Listen to the inspiring keynote words of Georgiana Sanchez (Barbareno Chumash/Tohono O?Odham), storyteller, poet, writer and professor of American Indian Studies at California State University. We invite you to meet and greet the authors, mingle with AILA members and ALA colleagues. Enjoy the refreshments, music, and festivities that provide a native motif for our award winners this year.
Tickets are $25.00 and can be ordered from Lisa Mitten. Please send a check or money order made payable to the "American Indian Library Association". Be sure to include name and address so that tickets can be mailed to you:
