The Rabbit Hill Festival of Literature, in Westport, Connecticut, will take place this year October 23-25. Featured speakers are: Steve Jenkins? E. B. Lewis Grace Lin Barbara McClintock David Wiesner Mo Willems
The Thursday night (Oct. 23) opening at the Westport Public Library will feature an illuminating lecture by Nick Clark, curator of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Northampton, MA. A tour of the nearby Weston Woods studios with Carnegie-award-winning producers Paul Gagne and Melissa Reilly is available for participants on Friday (Oct. 24), while the featured author/illustrators will be working with students in the Westport and Bridgeport schools.
Friday night Dinner with the Author/Illustrators and a Saturday symposium complete the program. On Saturday morning each artist will speak briefly about their work, and on Saturday afternoon they will each conduct two small group discussions, followed by an autographing session. Books will be available for sale throughout the festival.
? The Festival, in its 8th year, celebrates the legacy of Robert Lawson, who lived and worked in Westport for many years until his death in 1957. Author/illustrator of the Newbery-winning Rabbit Hill and the Caldecott-winning They Were Strong and Good, he was also the illustrator of the mid-20th century classics The Story of Ferdinand and Mr. Popper's Penguins.?
