What a good and timely topic!
DOES MY HEAD LOOK BIG IN THIS by Randas Abdel-Fattah (Scholastic, 2005) is about Amal, a deeply religious Muslim girl who's part Australian and part Palestinian. She lives in Sidney and goes to a prep school where she takes some heat for following through with her decision to wear the hijab (Muslim head scarf) despite facing teasing and misunderstanding as a result. But she also is very much a modern young Muslim woman and takes further heat from some of her more conservative family members for her strong feelings about women's roles.
