[CCBC-Net] Research Study of Children's Acquisitions Editors

Hi, everyone. Please excuse cross-postings. This message is for children's acquisitions editors (people who make decisions about publishing books for youth from preschool through 12th grade.)

"Found in Translation" is a two-part research study on how children's acquisitions editors decide to publish culturally conscious children's books from other countries in English translation. My name is Annette Goldsmith, I am a doctoral candidate at the Florida State University College of Information, and I am conducting the research for my dissertation. During the week of May 5, an email invitation to complete a 20-minute web-based survey will be sent to key decision-makers at Children's Book Council member publishing houses and former members from 2002-2007. A few selected participants will be interviewed in late May and June. Personal contact information will be kept confidential, no names will appear in the results, and findings will be reported in the aggregate. I am not asking you to divulge trade secrets. The purpose of the study is to increase overall knowledge about this area of children's book publishing.

I would like to encourage you to participate in my study in one of two ways:

1. If you think you qualify for the study and do not hear from me by the end of next week (May 9), please email me so that I can send you the password-protected link to the survey. 2. If you do not qualify for the study but are interested, I am looking for a few more people to help me pretest the follow-up interview. I would send you the interview questions in advance, and at your convenience I would phone you and conduct the interview (approximately 50 minutes) and ask for your comments about the questions.

Important: you do NOT need to have published translations, or have any intention of doing so, to participate in this study. I really need to hear from editors who do and do not focus on this type of publishing.

Thank you for your attention.

Best,

Annette
