Ms. Yolen,
I'm just curious, based on the previous comments, have you ever had the occasion to have heard your work discussed and been surprised to find meanings and nuances that you hadn't realized you'd put in them? Or thought "Someone is off their rocker! Who could possible see THAT in my work?"

"Libraries allow children to ask questions about the world and find the answers. And the wonderful thing is that once a child learns to use a library, the doors to learning are always open ... every child in America should have access to a well-stocked school or community library"
--Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States

The minute we put a poem on a test, it begins to die.
I would rather children have the poem in the mouth and in the ear and in the heart than on the test page.
