As the month of March concludes today (heading out as a wet lamb here in Madison), I want to share two resources with everyone.
First, I have attached the informal list of titles shared in our discussion over the past two weeks. The books are not in any order--I simply kept a running log of suggestions. My apologies if I missed any books that were mentioned.
Secondly, a new resource for educators caught my attention. It's called Stories of Us and it's based on a highly successful program from Australia. http://www.storiesofus.com/
/ Promoting Positive Peer Relationships (P3R/) The */P3R: Stories of Us ? Bullying /*program is composed of a unique series of film-based education resources for supporting students, educators and the broader community in addressing the problem of bullying in schools. Building upon the unprecedented success of the Australian /Stories of Us/ <http://www.readymade.com.au/stories/>, the significantly expanded American program has commenced production and the middle school series will be available early 2008 ? with the elementary and high school versions to follow. The project has the support of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign <http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/>
(UIUC), the University of California, Santa Barbara
<http://education.ucsb.edu/> (UCSB) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln <http://cehs.unl.edu/> (UNL), along with a broad base of leading educators from across the country.
Thank you for the thoughtful conversation over the past two weeks. Discussing this complex and emotional topic, I am glad to know there are so many concerned and caring adults out there who are aware of these issues.
We'll be switching gears tomorrow to talk about poetry, as the arrival of April brings us National Poetry Month.
Cheers, Tessa
