Bank Street came into my life the DAY I began teaching when they funded study of suburban vs. city schools. I started teaching in all-white, middle class suburbia, Fair Lawn, NJ.
I then did my Master's there (when Bank Street WAS at 69 Bank Street in Greenwich Village). I can highly recommend their programs. The college's philosophy of education is incredible.
I later worked as a Consultant in Harlem, NY for the College.
I would never have been the educator I became without the mentoring of such greats as Charlotte Winsor, Barbara Biber, Tillie S. Pine, Claudia Lewis, Irma Black, et. al.

I recently gave a workshop on poetry for youth (well, in my mind -- poetry for all...) and one of the books I shared was Neighborhood Odes by Gary Soto, illustrated by David Diaz. published in 1992. I cherish this collection ... and especially the illustrations by Diaz. Rarely do I see mention of this volume, either for Soto or for Diaz. My question: I want to know if these illustrations are paper cuts?? or are they woodcuts??
