When I calmed myself I thought about bullies and bully acts. My mind went back to a time when I heard a fellow teacher shouting, yelling, screaming at a young child about some fairly minor problem. Those shouts continue to reverberate in my head because (a) I was afraid to intervene--I was young, the teacher was much older--and the marble floors of the hall increased the reverberations. That child was terrified. So--I intervened against the ultimate power: the teacher or parent.
Really, honestly, I don't think books will correct the syndrome of power. Human intervention may.
O.K. I'm finished boring you with these thoughts.
