I can't let any discussion of audio books go by without a plug for my all-time favorite: Sanburg Out Loud. Carol Birch, Bill Harley and Angela Lloyd really bring the poems and Rootabega stories of Carl Sanburg to life! The stories and poems are both hilarious and very poignant (funny how often those go together), and the way the storytellers perform them makes this really stand out. The gorgeous language and the amazing images are all made so accessible and entertaining...We listened to this before reading the text versions, and we have enjoyed text much more for having those great interpretations in our heads. And our kids were exposed to this poetry long before they would otherwise have been, thanks to this terrific format.
