This was one of my favorite books as a kid. The parenting models are quite a contrast -- fearful and protective vs. encouraging and exploratory. What a revelation! Encourage a child's small and large discoveries.
Truly a classic.

A book my now-adult daughter and I both loved as kids is "Understood Betsy,"
by Dorothy Canfield (Fisher), published in 1917 and still available in several editions on Amazon today. I think that really it's a book for today's fearful, over-protective parents!
