My children say they will never forget the books we read aloud together, particularly my son (18 now) who says one of his best memories of childhood is the week he had the chicken pox in 2nd grade and I read aloud The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe in a full blown reading marathon. That was a wonderful bonding experience that has served us well through the years.

Another time, I couldn't help reading aloud the beginning pages of The Book Of Coupons at the dinner table and my husband and children were so enthralled that I read them the whole book. By the time we finished, it was long past dark and the food was cold, the kitchen was a mess but we were so happy....you know in that satisfied way you feel when you have just finished a great story....only we were experiencing that together. The best family therapy I know.
