[CCBC-Net] Too many awards?

I was also thinking about award overload the other night, especially in relation to the Geisel. When I heard about that award initially, I was thrilled, thinking it might bring out more books of the caliber of Lobel's Frog and Toad series or Rylant's early Mr. Putter and Tabby titles. Instead, each year's lists leave me totally perplexed (and occasionally depressed). I find myself wishing that it were a biannual award, like the Belpre, which might offer more options for selection. If it were offered less frequently, it might also perhaps attract more attention those years. (The Geisel seems to be one of the awards that hasn't even been mentioned in the discussions so far -- another mark of its low impact?)
