I agree with Betty Tisel and Norma Jean about the surfeit of awards. And...a problem that arises is the PIO controlled Press Conference. It is becoming a High Mass--or is that Mess? I recall with affection and warmth when the NewCotts were part of a business meeting of the CSD/ALSC Board. The chairs whispered in the pearly ear of the division secretary (now "Executive Director") and then announced to the Board. Many people attended that meeting and often someone on Board would purchase a bubbly alcoholic beverage which would be served in tasteful paper cups. Then...back to business with minimal twitter.
Since it is still--is it not?--an official part of the ALSC BoD business meeting, shouldn't ALSC's President ALWAYS be at the helm instead of dividing up the honor year to year?
I know we can't return to those days of yore--but it seemed an easier and friendlier time.
As to the large number of awards--count the runners-up for most of the named awardees. C'est trop.
