I am pleased to tell folks on this listserv that YALSA has approved the creation of an award for YA nonfiction -- the Sibert, like the Newbery, being an ALSC award. While YALSA's Printz prize can be awarded to nonfiction, historically it has slanted strongly towards fiction. I hope that the recognition that older teenagers need excellent nonfiction will encourage authors and publishers to bring out books for those bright, engaged, readers.
