Between the ages of 12 and 14, I had 101 pictures of Davy Jones on my bedroom wall. I loved him more than I loved either of my husbands. :-)

As for a 16-year-old liking The Monkees, I don't think it would be unheard of. My brother (a musician) is three years older than me, and he loved them. He was watching them at 16, and always preferred The Beatles and other pop bands over the hard core music of artists like Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin. Wearing flowers in your hair and declaring yourself a flower child wasn't just limited to the hard rock/drug culture crowd.
