I really enjoyed Mull's Fablehaven series. A fantasy adventure, it has two children as the central characters, but the fairies, mermaids and other fantasy characters have distinct personalities too. So far, there are two books in the series. It's for solid 5th grade up. Gail Dent, White Elementary School, Tucson
