I have lots of favorites:
Picture Books: Toy Boat - De Seve/Long -- I do hope the Caldecott committee takes a good long look at this one. The Perfect Nest - -what a joy to read Orange Pear Apple Bear - what a great book!
Middle Grade The Wednesday Wars -- Schmidt hands down the best this year The Invention of Hugo Cabret - Selznick another work of genius Reaching for Sun - Tracie Vaughn Zimmer Schooled - Korman -- what a fun book to read Matthew's Eyes - very poignant book, but who is the intended audience?
I did like A Crooked Kind of Perfect and have been hearing good things about Leepike Ridge (next on my reading list)
YA Spanking Shakespeare - Wizner --- one book should not be this funny. I call it THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LARRY meets David Sedaris. Twisted --Anderson -- dark, but excellent Wicked Lovely - Marr -- very good Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian -- loved it, but found the racial jokes a bit much
Keep reading, dave r
