Unfortunately, Alice Walker and Stefano Vitale's Why War is Never a Good Idea is not eligible for the Caldecott Medal. Well, I was wrong! (And I'm glad I was wrong.) Having read that Stefano Vitale lived in Italy, I jumped to the conclusion that he was Italian. Instead, he is an American living in Italy and is, thus, eligible to win the Caldecott for my favorite picture book of the year, Why War is Never a Good Idea.
