I, too, questioned the conclusions of the study after reading the NYTimes article. The Times (along with many other newspapers) follows the trend of using alarming, misleading headlines. Reading the first few paragraphs can often leave a reader with the wrong impression. I'll stick with Krashen's opinion, cited near the conclusion, and will look forward to Aronson's further comments -- as well as others' thoughts on this topic. PW
