Oops, obviously I hadn't looked at the book closely enough. I see now that it says "A Novel by James W. Ellison" on the cover, but then it says "Based on the Screenplay Written by Doug Atchison" below that. Sorry.
So the movie was not based on a novel. Thanks, Nancy Kammer, for catching that!
