[CCBC-Net] books in films

I would just like to point out that a lot of the films people like that are faithful to the books are Walden Media films (Narnia, Bridge to Terabithia, Zathura (hey, I liked it), Holes, Because of Winn Dixie, Charlotte's Web). It is the stated mission of this studio to take award winning and classic children's books and produced faithful, family friendly fare. The studio even provides in-class kits and tools to promote discussions of the original books. Honestly, I will go see any film made by this studio, most particularly the ones with Disney, which is easy since they don't release too many each year. I'll admit the Seeker was a disappointment, but I suspect that has a lot more to do with 20th Century Fox than Walden Media.

About Terabithia, the author never gives any real description of the mythical kingdom. It's whatever the reader imagines it to be. In fact, in the movie, we see three different versions of Terabithia, Leslie's, Jesse's, and his little sisters. If you watch carefully, the big vistas they show and the individual characters are all quite different. As for the trailers, everyone affiliated with the movie acknowledges they were a huge mistake. Fantasy fans went expecting LOTR and were disappointing. Terabithia fans didn't go because they thought it was LOTR and so missed a great movie.
