The Jane Addams Children's Book Award Committee requests submissions for its 2008 annual award. A national committee of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom members concerned with children's books and social justice is responsible for making the choices each year. Award-winning books invite young readers to think deeply about peace, social justice, gender equity, and world community. Books commended by the award over the past fifty years encourage young readers to stretch their imaginations beyond the concerns of their individual and family lives so that they can grapple with the world's problems courageously and nonviolently. Official guidelines for the award are available at http://www.janeaddamspeace.org <http://www.janeaddamspeace.org/>
Books for preschool through age twelve are eligible, including translations and books published in English in other countries, and subsequently published in the U.S.A. during the preceding year. The deadline for the 2008 Awards will be December 31, 2007. Send submissions to the Committee Chair at the following address:
Susan C. Griffith, Chair
Jane Addams Children's Book Award Committee
English Department
215 Anspach Hall
Central Michigan University
Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 48859
Send suggestions for consideration (author, title, publisher) to Susan Griffith directly at griff2sc at cmich.edu
Thank you,
Susan Griffith, Chair, 2008 Addams Award Committee
