I was delighted to see Halloween ABC mentioned by Ginny! For years, during the month of October, I have gotten this book out and displayed it with all my other Halloween/Fall books. And for years, I put it away, nearly untouched! Not the case this year!
My 2nd graders have fallen in love with Merriam's poems and Smith's illustrations. "Ghost" and "Jack-o'-lantern" are our favorites! They perform beautifully and lend themselves to being done aloud individually, in small groups or as a whole class. As one of my 7-year-olds-said, "You can just make the words BOUCE when you read "Jack-o'-lantern"!
Proving the point at a spooky time of year that poetry is anything but boring! In the spirit of the season,
Kind regards, Clark Underbakke, Ph.D. cunderbakke at hoover.k12.al.us<mailto:cunderbakke at hoover.k12.al.us> 2nd Grade Teacher Hoover, AL
