Stephenie Meyers is hugely popular at my library, but I wonder if it isn't the mix of romance and vampires that makes Twilight appealing. As an avid vampire story reader, I felt that I waited a long time for that scary thrill (when it finally came, it certainly packed a big punch) and that's what makes me think perhaps the romance is pulling them into the story and making them stay for the scary bits.

**Today we'll begin our discussion of the CCBC-Net topic for the second part of October: Horror Stories.

Stephenie Meyer?s hugely popular ?Twilight? series is the first vampire story many teens have read. What do those who find the book?s gothic qualities as appealing?or even moreso?than its romance read next?

And to what books do younger readers with whom you work turn--or do you turn yourself when offering up tales of horror or other scintillating scares?
