[CCBC-Net] library is so boring

Whoops--

Probably the most important didn't "take" as a direct link: It's a "feed" from Wikispaces. I'm not quite sure how to turn it into a link. Sorry. Hope you find it, as it's the most helpful.

Read your post this morning and thought I'd respond. I have a particularly amazing niece, Katy Balma, MFA poet and MLS grad, now in Spain on a Fulbright Grant. Check out her teaching portfolio and other things, if you wish. She seems to have the gift of leaving middle schoolers asking for more library time. You'll notice many of her projects and ideas involve bilinguial or Spanish/Latin American focus, but not all do, and all are adaptable.
Best,
Deborah

If I hear this phrase again from one of the 8th graders, I may run screaming for the door. At my middle school this current class of 8th graders seems to be the most problematic in terms of loudness, not showing respect for teachers and each other, maturity and boorish behavior. They have problems with all the specialists and I hate the idea of dreading them but I am starting to.

They are not going to go away, so I am working hard to keep them busy, happy and learning. Ah a noble task but heck it's my job.

I want them to at least enjoy coming to the library during their schedule classes. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated. Our schedule has them coming to the library 2x per week for 45 minutes.

  Thanks to any who respond,

You see, I don't believe that libraries should be drab places
where people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason
for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians.
