And then there's Sue Lawson's My Gran is Different, about a young boy reflecting on how his grandma, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, is different from his friends'. This is a sensitive narrative, recommended for children who can relate to a grandparent suffering from this devastating illness. The book, published in Australian by Lothian and republished by Simply Read Books, has won awards and is illustrated by the amazing Caroline Magerl, whose work I would like to see published more often in the U.S (here's a sample of her work, for those interested: http://www.papertigers.org/gallery/ Caroline_Magerl/index.html).
