[CCBC-Net] Most Popular Newbery

I would have to say that Shiloh is the most popular Newbery among the middle grade readers I know, with The Giver, Maniac Magee, Tale of Despereaux, Holes and Number the Stars coming in close behind. A dog story and several stories about outsiders..hmmmm

For old books, I still read Millions of Cats...the refrain is the hook for sure... to my kindergarteners every year. They still love it even though it is small and in black and white. Mike Mulligan and Katy and the Big Snow are very popular too. Man and machine against nature? I read them to Kindergarten each year also, and each year there are kids who check them out again and again.
