                                  BOOK FEST 2007
                                                                                   
                                                                                   
 Once again, Book Fest 2007 will bring people together to share the joys of
 reading and talking about books for children and teens.
                                                                                   
                                                                                   
 The Office of Children?s Services and The Office of Young Adult Services of The
 New York Public Library are pleased to continue this special event. To kick the
 morning off, Lois Lowry, recipient of the 2007 Margaret A. Edwards Award honoring
 her outstanding lifetime contribution to writing for teens and winner of Newbery
 Medals for The Giver and Number the Stars, will be our keynote speaker. Lois
 Lowry is the author of many books for children and teens. Her most recent titles
 are Gossamer , an ALA Notable Children?s Book, and Gooney the Fabulous . Lois
 Lowry is also a contributor to a new collection of short stories entitled Shining
 on: 11 Star Authors? Illuminating Stories .
                                                                                   
                                                                                   
 Next it will be time for you to discuss books in our small book discussion
 groups. Choose one of the eleven groups listed by age to the right. Each is led
 by a well-known children?s or young adult literature specialist in the New York
 City area. Make a selection and read all the books listed so you can share in the
 discussion.
                                                                                   
                                                                                   
 Our afternoon panel will feature an exciting array of talented authors and
 illustrators dedicated to using technology to create art in children?s books.
                                                                                   
 William Low has won numerous awards including four Silver medals from the Society
 of Illustrators. His books include Chinatown (author/illustrator), The Days of
 Summer by Eve Bunting and Henry and the Kite Dragon by Bruce Edward Hall, and Old
 Penn Station (author/illustrator).
                                                                                   
                                                                                   
 J. Otto Seibold, author/illustrator of Olive the Other Reindeer, was one of the
 first children's book artists to create computer-generated art and is considered
 the master of that medium. His most recent book is Mind Your Manners, B. B. Wolf,
 written by Judy Sierra.
                                                                                   
 John Grandits is an award-winning book and magazine designer and the author of
 "Beatrice Black Bear," a monthly cartoon for Click magazine. Technically It's Not
 My Fault, his first book of concrete poems, is and ALA Notable Book. Blue
 Lipstick is his most recent book of concrete poetry.
                                                                                   
 To keep your energy flowing, there will be morning coffee, a gourmet lunch, and a
 sherry hour at the day?s conclusion. Book sales and autographing by our featured
 presenters will add to the day?s enjoyment.
