Well, I think the point is that Voldemort is really not in touch with his soul--otherwise, he couldn't do the horrible things that he does, and the purity of Harry's soul (see end of book #5) wouldn't be so painful to him. That's why he totally fails to heed the warnings of THE DARKEST ART, and really cannot entirely take in Harry's warning about how this was his last chance to feel remorse. Obviously, V knows better now, poor flayed child that he is....
