Most publishers are smart enough, and sophisticated enough, to know that books such as Harry Potter are a phenomenon; whether or not the share holders of those whose parent company are public corporations know it, is an entirely different matter. Extraordinary successes in book publishing cannot be predicted..often, they are triggered by word of mouth which cannot be bought. Unpredictable to be sure and a splendid opportunity upon which a smart, astute publisher can build. Many, or, all of us...may never witness another Harry Potter in our lifetime...all to come.
