Gordon Korman has written a lot of great adventure/ survival series: Island, Everest, On the Run, Kidnapped, etc... He's great at writing adventure scenes, logical progressions, and believable kid characters. They're short but a lot of fun.
   
  I would also be remiss if I didn't mention Todd Strasser. He writes some physical survival books (Against the Odds series/ Diving Bell), but also writes social survival books such as Can't Get There From Here about teen homelessness, Con-Fidence about surviving peer pressure and a new school, and Give a Boy a Gun about school violence. His survive in the wild books are great for kids, while his social survival books are excellent thought provokers for young adults.
