It's out-of-print now. Too bad. It's such a compelling, realistic survival story that this discussion on CCBC sent me to Amazon to get an out-of-print copy. THE ISLAND KEEPER by Harry Mazer is the story of Cleo, a rich, fat girl who runs away to spend the summer on a Canadian island that her father owns. When she decides to rejoin civilization, she cannot. This is a survival story par excellence that features a girl protagonist. Survival in the wilderness does not become dated, and this book is worthy of reissue.
