Some almost forgotten survival novels include TRAPPED by the late Arthur Roth, about a boy who must survive trapped inside his car after a car wreck. Arthur Roth also wrote THE ICEBERG HERMIT, another good survival story.
In the vein of survivors who don't survive is THE SURVIVOR by Robb White. I still remember my shock in seventh grade when I got to the last page. Robb White also wrote DEATHWATCH, a sort of YA survival take-off on the classic short story, THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME.
